"No two persons ever read the same book." ~ Edmund Wilson
I am organizing another book club. Giving it a second chance. This time there will be more of us; 12 really fun and amazing woman, and I am really hoping it will go. I need to show up tomorrow night with a couple of suggestions for our first pick. I don't know some of these woman well yet, so this is a bit scary for me. I am thinking I need to pick something fairly new, or someone will have read it. Help! What have your read lately that kept you up into the wee hours of the night? I would love to know.

Here I write and try to capture my everyday life even when it is blurry and unclear. I love simple things like sun flares and snowflakes, walks on the beach and people around my table; where you will always find candle light, laughter and flowers. Welcome to my blog and my corner of the world. I am glad you are here.

I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't read too much lately... the last one I read was "Heaven is Here" by Stephanie Nielson. She blogs at http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/ this book changed me...
ReplyDeleteI commented on Flickr as well. "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein or "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. Both of these are favorites of my book club.
ReplyDeleteI've just read The Chaperone. It's a good book club read. Lots to discuss.
ReplyDeleteWell... Let me get my list...
ReplyDelete1. The Story of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon
2. Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Ton Franklin
3. Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland *LOVED this book but it is so my era to read about.
4. The Sisters from Hardscrabble Bay by Beverly Jensen
5. The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom
6. Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok - I led this for my book club last year, everybody liked it.
7. A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron - not everybody is a dog lover I know, but it was a great book.
8. LEFT Neglected by Lisa Genova
That is probably more than you wanted, but I love to read and I keep lists.
Beautiful photo, great use of texture.
ReplyDeleteWhen Women Were Birds by Terry Tempest Williams. Quick read, and I read it through in two days...
ReplyDeleteI commented at Flickr but after reading some of the suggestions here, I have to add something :)
ReplyDeleteSarah mentioned "Left Neglected" oh my gosh yes! But I think her first novel, "Still Alice" is utterly amazing and also gets a lot of discussion going at book club.
Good luck with the book club -- sounds like you're off on a good start with this one.
Eternal on the water was my favorite read last year. Our literary club picked it as our group read lots of good discussion questions at the end for a book club. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteThanks sounds like fun.. and I agree, we all see a book or movie through the lens of our life experiences and views...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite recent read is "The House I Loved," by Tatiana de Rosnay. It's about a woman who is losing her family home in Paris in the mid 1850s, because the city is being rebuilt to create the wide avenues of today's city. It's written as a series of letters. I also love the books by Jacqueline Sheehan, about a woman finding her way back from loss with the help of an adopted Labrador Retriever (Lost & Found, Picture This). And there's also Vanessa Diffenbaugh's "The Language of Flowers," which I think is wonderful.
