“The measuring and mixing always smoothed out her thinking processes - nothing was as calming as creaming butter - and when the kitchen was warm from the oven overheating and the smell of baking chocolate, she took final stock of where she'd been and where she was going. Everything was fine.”
― Jennifer Crusie, Maybe This Time
it seems the older i get the more in-tune i am to the weather. the thermometer is suppose to read 68 here today, and i can't wait. the buds on the little tree off our deck grow right before my eyes. there are tons of birds at the feeders and the lots of ducks on the pond.
when i was a child there were two seasons: school and no school. when my kids were young the seasons were defined by sports; soccer, swimming and baseball. in seattle there are two seasons: rainy and july 5th through about mid september when the sun is out a few days each week. here east of the mountains the seasons are more defined, four definite seasons, each one with their own show.
my weekly phone visited with my mom always included a talk about the weather. she would ask, "how is your weather?" and then process to give me a daily report of theirs.
i get that now. now that i have time. time to watch and appreciate the turning of the world and the beauty each season brings. and i admit, it is always a question i ask my kids when i talk with them. it seems every season is my favorite, and spring is showing off right now.
these were baked yesterday. some of them were eaten warm out of the oven, some were taken to a friend who is home sick and some were put in the cookie jar for later. here is the recipe, with more photos, hers are much better than mine, but hey, this was a post about the weather.
how's the weather in your corner of the world?
xoxo
Here I write and try to capture my everyday life even when it is blurry and unclear. I love simple things like sun flares and snowflakes, walks on the beach and people around my table; where you will always find candle light, laughter and flowers. Welcome to my blog and my corner of the world. I am glad you are here.

Oh, I love your blog. So much. These are great shots. We are in the middle of a rainstorm today. Heavy rainfall warning. Spring is far off for us. Yes, the "how's your weather?" Oh yes.
ReplyDeleteIt is so funny about your mom and the weather, because Glen's dad called last night from Arizona and he always starts the call with a report about the weather there. Right now it is too hot for him 90 degrees during the day. I think "come on your in Arizona what do you expect" :)
ReplyDeleteso you Get down scouting for some talent ideas all over the internet, you Indian immigrants who governs a staunchly bourgeois Southerly land, is seen as a potential
